surroundings

At the southernmost tip of the Gulf of La Spezia there are two very picturesque coastal towns. Lerici is a popular and exclusive holiday spot, which houses the magnificent St. George’s castle. At the other end of the small bay there is the small town of San Terenzo.

To the western end of the Gulf of La Spezia lies Portovenere, a beautiful and historic fortified village included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The main attraction of the typical Ligurian town is the Church of San Pietro. Portovenere is the antechamber of the Cinque Terre. These five spectacular fishing villages (Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso) are recognised as some of Italy’s most extraordinary countryside and are included in the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
